Boyan Ensemble of Kiev
Saturday 5 October, 7.30pm
The first visit to Dumfries by this remarkable choir, on its 21st annual tour of the UK. The 26 members present a programme of compelling intensity and precision. The first half of the concert evokes the spiritual drama and gold-encrusted atmosphere of the Eastern Orthodox tradition, while in the second half, songs of joy, humour and nostalgia convey the rich folk culture of Ukraine. Complete mastery of vocal technique, with delicately floated pianissimos and breathtakingly brilliant fortes. Complementing the awesome bass voices is a single lyric soprano soloist, who adds a unique quality that further distinguishes the choir.
