Launch of new series: The Edinburgh Companions to Scottish Literature
The Centre for Scottish and Celtic Studies, together with Edinburgh University Press, invites you all to celebrate the launch of a new series, The Edinburgh Companions to Scottish Literature, the first three volumes of which have just recently been published:
- The Edinburgh Companion to Robert Burns ed. Gerry Carruthers
- The Edinburgh Companion to Twentieth-Century Scottish Literature, ed. Ian Brown and Alan Riach
- The Edinburgh Companion to Contemporary Scottish Poetry, ed. Matt McGuire and Colin Nicholson series,
All three volumes have editors based in the Department of Scottish Literature in the University of Glasgow, and the Series Editors are Ian Brown (Scottish Literature) and Thomas Owen Clancy (Celtic and Gaelic), so it is something of a home-team celebration.
The series was launched on Thursday 15 October 2009.
Masters Degrees
The Centre for Scottish and Celtic Studies offers several taught postgraduate Masters (MLitt) degrees. These can be taken full-time over one year or part-time over two years.
These degrees offer an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together staff from History, Celtic, Scottish Literature and Archaeology in collaborative teaching teams. In each programme, a core course provides a broad overview of themes while a choice of specialised modules allows students to focus on particular periods and events.
Focuses on the history and literature of the modern era from the Union of 1707 to the present. | |
| MLitt in Medieval Scottish Studies | Offers specialised training in medieval studies with close links to Celtic and Archaelogy. |
| MLitt in Scottish Studies/Medieval Scottish Studies with Gaelic | For students wishing to develop Gaelic language skills alongside Scottish studies. |
| MLitt in Gaelic with Scottish Studies/Medieval Scottish Studies | Combines advanced study of Gaelic with an exploration of Scottish studies. |
| Focuses on the medieval Celtic languages, literature and history. |
It is also possible to study Scottish history and literature at Glasgow through MLitt programmes in History or Scottish Literature.
