Postgraduate research degrees
The School of Humanities offers supervision for the traditional research degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD - 3 years full-time; 5 years part-time) and Master of Letters (MLitt – 2 years full-time; 3 years part-time), and there is provision for co-supervision in topics which cross disciplines. Many subjects also offer the degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) by research, and the Master of Research (MRes).
PhD postgraduates pursue specialised projects under the supervision of two members of staff and produce a doctoral thesis of no more than 100,000 words. Staff invite inquiries from prospective students to discuss possible research topics. For staff research interests, please see the relevant staff pages.
