Conference Logo

The conference logo features a small copper-alloy head (H.26mm) excavated during the late Charles Thomas’s excavations on Iona in 1959. Stress fractures at the base of the head suggest it has been broken off a more complete human figure, and the flat back shows it may have been attached to some larger complex piece of metalwork. The piece, together with the entire Thomas Iona archive, is currently being prepared for publication by Ewan Campbell and Adrián Maldonado of the University of Glasgow’s Archaeology Subject. We are grateful to them for permission to use this illustration by Marion O’Neill.
