As one of a group of staff members with a dominant interest in Geomatics my research is directed towards improved GIS design, with emphasis on: database design and maintenance; integrating and maintaining data from traditional map, metric, non-metric and historic photographic, video, multispectral, and other remote systems; handling 3-D and dynamic data; and, representing the source and quality of data. I consider the last of these to be my core research area. As collaboration is a key element of GIS research, with my colleagues I have built up relationships with academic researchers in projects related to coastal sedimentation and erosion and river catchment management, with public agencies in projects related to agricultural development, Land Registration, communal tenure and data protection and with commercial organisations in the area of data and information quality.
