Dr Phoenix awarded £450K to investigate nanoparticle transport in the environment
Issued: Mon, 12 Mar 2012 10:00:00 GMT
While manufactured nanoparticles can be used in a wide range of beneficial processes, some are toxic and thus we must be able to predict the transport behaviour in the natural environment. Vernon Phoenix, along with William Holmes of the Glasgow Experimental MRI Centre, will be utilizing magnetic resonance imaging to 'look inside' rock and image the tranport of nanoparticles within. This will enable construction of far more robust nanoparticle transport models needed in environmental risk assessment. This is a joint proposal with University of Birmingham (total combined grant from EPSRC £650K).
