Welcome from the Chief Adviser

August 2011

I am delighted to welcome you to the School of Education and hope that the following information is of help to you.

Meeting your Adviser:

You can make an appointment to see your adviser by contacting the Advising Secretary, Joanne McGee. You can contact her by phone, Tel: 0141 330 3032, or by Email, Joanne.McGee@glasgow.ac.uk.

All first and second year students of the BEd, BedMus, BTechEd and MA programmes will automatically be notified of an appointment to meet with their adviser each session. These will last for around 10 minutes and it is important that students attend these appointments. If you are unable to attend, please notify the Advising Secretary in advance, in order to reschedule your appointment.

You can also make additional appointments throughout the year to see your adviser by contacting the Advising Secretary.

All third and fourth year students of the BEd, BEdMus, BTechEd and MA programmes are not allocated appointments but can still arrange to see their adviser by contacting the Advising Secretary.

All PGDE students can also arrange to see their adviser by contacting the Advising Secretary.

Student Support:

Advisers of studies in the School of Education provide support services which complement and augment those given by course tutors, course leaders and other staff.  The adviser’s role includes helping students with the following:

Course Electives (BEd 1 only)
Adverse Circumstances
BEd and PGDE Monitoring of Student Academic Progress
Financial Services and Support
Pastoral care

The BTechEd and MA advisers will also assist students of these programmes with their course choices throughout their years of study.

Change of Personal Details:

Please note that it is your responsibility to keep your address details etc. up to date on your MyCampus student record. Failure to do so may result in you not receiving important information such as documentation from the Faculty with graduation details.

References:

If you wish to use your adviser’s name on an application form that asks you for a referee or point of contact, you must seek your adviser’s permission first.

We hope the time you spend at the University of Glasgow will be enjoyable and successful for you.

Yours sincerely,

Irene McQueen
