Career history
Before joining the Department, I worked in a variety of roles supporting Catholic education in Scotland. Between 1996 and 2001 I was a Religious Education adviser for the schools in the Diocese of Paisley (comprising Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde councils). Thereafter I served a term as school chaplaincy coordinator. In 1999 I was invited by Bishop John Mone to work with the Religious of Paisley Diocese and, in collaboration with them, set up the Diocesan Conference of Religious. I remained as Bishop's Delegate to the Conference until 2005. Between 2000 and 2008 I was a member of the Diocesan Child Protection advisory group.
After joining the University, my first experience of representing the Department took the form of offering the 'Time for Reflection' at the Scottish Parliament on 15th September 2004. This was only the second such Reflection since the new Holyrood Parliament's official opening the week before. I was delighted and honoured to be the first representative of the Roman Catholic church to address the new chamber. The transcript of the reflection may be found by following this link:
A further opportunity to address the Parliament came on 24th September 2008. The transcript of this reflection can be found at this link:
