Development of the School of Education app for new teachers

Issued: Mon, 06 Feb 2012 17:20:00 GMT

The School of Education has launched its first app, “Proficio”, which provides support for our new teacher graduates. It is available initially for Android handsets via the Android Market, and as a web version. It will also be available via iTunes in due course.

Following a focus group carried out in 2011 with final year undergraduates, the students who were going on to become teachers expressed a wish to maintain a professional link to the School of Education after graduation.  This led to two separate initiatives, the development of an app to support new teachers and the formation of the successful new Teachers Network.

It is recognized that the probationary year can be a particularly stressful time for many teachers and the aim of this app (named 'Proficio') is to offer practical and appropriate advice for new teachers on a number of diverse topics.  These range from managing your classroom, tips on health and well being as well as standards for registration and links to research and professional sites.

We aim to update this on an annual basis, so any feedback on ideas for inclusion/change in 2012/2013 would be very welcome.
