Laura Cross is a Consultant and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in Restorative Dentistry with sub-specialty interests in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics.
She graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1990 with Distinction in Conservative and Prosthetic Dentistry. She gained her FDS in 1993 and took up a Clinical Lecturer post at the University of Glasgow in 1994. She was awarded her PhD in 1998 and a scientific paper resulting from the research was presented at the IADR in Nice and won the 1998 Frechette New Investigator Award. In 1999, she presented the T.C. White Prize Lecture at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. In 2008, she was selected to participate in the Second International Biennial Workshop for Prosthodontic Educators, run by the International College of Prosthodontists in Karlsruhe, Germany. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
On completion of her Specialist Training Programme in Restorative Dentistry, achieving her certificate of accreditation in 2003, she was appointed as a Consultant at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School in 2004. She became Head of the Clinical Dentistry Section in 2012 and is Chair of the Clinical Dentistry Section Education Leads Committee. She is an examiner in the MFDS Examination for the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and represents the University of Glasgow on the NES Specialist Training Committee for Restorative Dentistry.
Her research interests include candidal biofilms and prevention of bisphosphonate osteonecrosis of the jaws.
