Biography
David Watson qualified BDS from the University of Glasgow in 1983. Following a House Officer post at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School in Oral Surgery and Periodontology/Oral Medicine, his background is mainly in primary care dentistry, having worked both in Practice and the Salaried Primary Care Dental Service with a specific interest in adult special care dentistry.
He attained an MSc with Distinction in Community Dental Practice from the University of London in 1997, together with a Diploma in Dental Public Health from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
David became involved with Outreach teaching in Adult Restorative Dentistry in 1998, leading the Pilot Programme from the University of Glasgow while working as a Senior Dental Officer at Greenock Health Centre. The definitive programme began in 2003.
In October 2006 he was appointed Senior Clinical Teacher in Restorative Dentistry with responsibility to lead teaching in Outreach in the newly expanded Programme for BDS 5 students in the 2004 curriculum.
External committee work includes University representation on SDVTC and NHS GG&C Area Dental Committee. He has been a member of the Readers’ Panel for Dental Update since 1998.
In 2007, he was appointed External Examiner in the BDS Final Examination at University of Birmingham.
David is Course Coordinator for BDS5.
