Postgraduate research opportunities

The Dental School offers three Research Degrees awarded by the School of Medicine: these are PhD, MSc (Med. Sci.) and DDS

Those wishing to pursue a research degree are advised to consult the research pages of this website and the personal profile pages of academic staff, to identify those subject areas that fit within the research strategy. It is recommended that contact is then made with a potential supervisor on the staff to identify possible areas for development of a suitable project.

It may be possible to incorporate a short period of clinical attachment into the research degrees of PhD and MSc (Med Sci.), although this must not be regarded as the equivalent of a specialist clinical training. Dentists seeking primarily to extend their clinical experience are advised to seek entry to one of the taught MSc courses which include a dissertation.
