Infection and Immunity Research Group
The Infection and Immunity (I&I) Research Group, led by Dr Gordon Ramage, is based within The University of Glasgow Dental School and is part of the School of Medicine; College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences. The group specializes in research related to and the prevention of oral diseases of public importance. Oral health care costs NHS Scotland £404M per year, of which infectious oral diseases are responsible for considerable morbidity and socioeconomic burden. Our aim is to understand in greater detail the pathogeneisis of these diseases and to help devise novel, cost effective and accessible treatments.
The group collaborates with various research groups across the School of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences. In addition, the group has strong external collaborations with the NHS in Scotland and both national and international industrial sponsors. These links have provided vital funding streams which have enabled us to develop expertise in three main oral diseases and decontamination of dental and medical devices (click for further information):

The aim of the Infection and Immunity Research Group over the next five years is to establish itself as a centre of excellence in the management of infectious oral diseases. With a bench to bedside philosophy we aim to provide feedback and guide our clinical colleagues towards the most effective strategies for managing these oral diseases. In order to achieve our goals we are constantly on the lookout for new individuals with the drive and passion to undertake a postgraduate research degree. Therefore all members of staff welcome informal enquiries to discuss research opportunities related to their areas of expertise.
