Community Oral Health

This section covers the disciplines of Dental Public Health, Epidemiology, Special Care Dentistry and Ethics. The Community Oral Health Research Group is embedded in this section, and undertakes research activities that focus on health inequalities, with particular emphasis on caries in children and on oral cancer. The assessment of the national Childsmile programme is led by Prof Lorna Macpherson and fellow researchers in this section, with major grant funding from the Scottish Government. The teaching responsibilities are integrated throughout the BDS programme, with a novel community outreach component in which students are linked during the entire course to the various components of the Childsmile service development.
