The Alexander and Dixon Scholarship (Bryce Bequest)
Fees-only scholarships for the PhD in English Literature
This studentship is available only to UK students and EU nationals applying also to the AHRC for PhD funding. Candidates from outside the EU are not eligible for this award.
The PhD in English Literature is designed as a three-year supervised research degree (which may also be taken part-time) for students with a good Honours degree in English Literature, usually combined with a Taught Masters in the subject. Holders of this award will be encouraged to apply for teaching positions in the Department once their PhD is underway.

How to apply
Candidates are advised to discuss their interests with the Graduate Convener- Christine Ferguson and with their prospective supervisor(s).
Applications should consist of a 1000-word case for support (which may be identical to the case for support made in the AHRC and Facultyapplication form) and a brief covering letter, including the proposed title of the thesis, the name(s) of the proposed supervisor(s), and giving email and other contact details.
(Please note that the University must already have received your application and accepted you - conditionally or unconditionally - for a PhD in English Literature.)

The Bryce Bequest was made by the late Professor John Cameron Bryce in memory of Professor Peter Alexander, former Professor of English Literature at the University of Glasgow, and in memory also of Professor W. Mac Neile Dixon.
