The People's Voice: Poetry, Song & the Franchise, 1832-1918

Main Project Website: here.

Supported by the Chancellor’s Fund, the Centre for Scottish and Celtic Studies and the Centre for Robert Burns Studies at the University of Glasgow, this project comprised (in the first instance) two events:

  • a day-workshop bringing together archivists and researchers across Scotland and from the rest of the UK, to scope an online catalogue of collections of Scottish political poetry and song, and generate an interdisciplinary research agenda.
  • an evening public poetry reading and recital, to celebrate/investigate poetry and song as a medium for political debate in Scotland. Invited guests and performers included Sheena Wellington.
