Research Development Activities

The MHRC organizes and facilitates various research development activities intended to potentiate medical humanities research in Glasgow University. Amongst these activities are:

1) The Medical Humanities Discussion Group, which meets regularly, primarily during the teaching semesters.

2) Events (workshops, symposia, lectures) held under the auspices of the Medical Humanities Research Network Scotland, a Scottish-wide research network based in Critical Studies at Glasgow University.

3) Seminars and masterclasses held under the auspices of the Scottish Health Humanities Seminar and Masterclass Series, a seminar series shared between Critical Studies at Glasgow University and the School of Health in Social Science at Edinburgh University.

4) An ad hoc programme of Visiting Speakers, with recent speakers including Prof Carlos Lopez Beltrán of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

5) Major conferences such as the ‘Attentive Writers’ conference.

The MHRC is building international relationships with Scandinavian and North American research centres, and has hosted Wellcome Trust events for grant applicants.
