Scottish and Irish Literature

The School hosts the only Scottish Literature subject area in the world, but cross-period work on Scottish and Irish literature is undertaken across the whole School. We have strong international links with scholars in Canada, USA, New Zealand, Italy and the Czech Republic. Irish Studies, with particular reference to the Scottish/Irish axis and overlapping with colonial, post-colonial and diaspora research is a developing cross-period theme connecting in particular with literature post-1800 and especially modernism. The School will play host to the Scottish Studies Global Congress in 2014, convener Murray Pittock, to coincide with Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
