Daniel Wiechmann, Masters/MSc in Media Management programme 2008-09

Graduates at Bute Hall 0809"What do you expect from an international oriented media masters programme?

In today's media world, it is your obligation as media managers to not only understand the economics and policy, but also to know about strategies of how to deal with the converging and digitising nature of the environment. At the Centre for Cultural Policy Research (CCPR) and its co-operation with the well-known business school at Glasgow you get a promising set of tools - be it in the area of intellectual property law, strategy and marketing, media policy or finance. You name it.

Best of all, not only do you get input from top University staff who are  specialists known far beyond the Scottish borders, you also enjoy guest lectures by executives within the media industry, which inspire you to think out of the box.
The programme is quite ambitious in the scope and range of subjects covered, but is absolutely worth it, no matter where you hope to start your career. It is also great to get to know the diversity of cultures converging within the programme - in the class of 2009 my fellow students came from Canada, China, India, Italy and Sri-Lanka.

I finished the programme in August 2009 and have commenced my career as a Trainee at Axel Springer in Hamburg (Germany)."

Stefan Reinhardt, Masters/MSc in Media Management programme 2007-08:

photo of MSc 2007 - 2008 graduate Stefan Reinhardt"Coming from a cultural and literary studies background, I wanted to give myself an edge in the business and management related parts of the media. This is what I found in the Media Management course here at the Centre for Cultural Policy Research and in its co-operation with the Glasgow Business School, something that showed me new and more analytical ways of looking at business issues. The course gave a broad overview of many different kinds of media issues and the challenges that the media are facing, from economics to politics and management, which opened up many possibilities for up-to-date research.  All in all, a very good and successful year, owing much to the experience offered at the University of Glasgow and to the City of Glasgow and Scotland, and not least to the people one might have the luck of meeting here and making friends with. Having graduated with the MSc in Media Management in December 2008, I am busy doing an internship in the advertising department of a magazine in Berlin, adding work experience to the theory."

Enrico from Italy, Masters/MSc in Media Management programme 2007/08:

"I chose the MSc in Media Management because of the outstanding international reputation of the University of Glasgow and specifically that of CCPR's academic staff.

I would surely suggest to a prospective student to apply for this programme: it offers the right balance between the more theoretical academic knowledge and the analytical management tools that are vital in the working environment.

I finished the programme in August 2008 and I started working for an international sports marketing company. The knowledge and skills acquired during the programme have been important in getting this fantastic job and they are definitely helping me in my daily tasks.

The University of Glasgow is simply amazing, providing anything a student would need, from a wide choice of excellent services and facilities to the more trivial recreation. Plus Glasgow is a young and vibrant city, full of students, museums, bars, clubs and any kind of entertainment and cultural initiative, being at the same time inexpensive if compared to other major British cities."
