This summer, Graduate students of the Smithsonian-George Mason University MA in the History of Decorative Arts program will be attending the University of Glasgow for the following graduate courses:
• Gothic and the Gothic Revival (June 24-July 5)
• Treasure Houses of Scotland (July 8-19)
The courses feature lectures, behind-the-scenes site visits, and study sessions led by leading experts and scholars.

Gothic and the Gothic Revival - Examine the Scottish Gothic style, from its medieval origins to its late 18th-and 19th-century antiquarian rediscovery. Particular focus will be paid to the design and architecture of this iconic style, including furniture, stained glass and silver. Dr Debra Strickland
Treasure Houses of Scotland - Explore the architecture and social history of Scotland's 18th- and 19th-century homes. Particular focus will be paid to the planning, descriptive treatment and use of the interiors including furniture, ceramics, silver, textiles and other decorative arts. Dr Hilary Macartney
