Biography

Chris is the Director of Taught Postgraduate Degree courses for Accounting & Finance.  He joined the Business School in 2006, having previously worked as a University lecturer for 11 years.  Previously, Chris was in practice with KPMG as a tax consultant, and taught accounting and finance part-time at FE colleges in Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil.  Whilst working with KPMG, Chris qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) and a Chartered Tax Advisor (ATII).  Chris has a Masters degree in Education, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education – both awarded by the University of Dundee.

Chris is an External Examiner at Dundee University and has worked as a marker for both ICAS and the ACCA.  He has facilitated short courses in accounting and finance for start-up businesses via the Scottish Enterprise Business Gateway scheme in Perth, Dundee and Arbroath, and he has made a number of guest presentations at CPD sessions organized by the ACCA.  He has also facilitated a number of short courses in accounting and finance for non-financial managers in the construction industry and in the power generation industry.

Chris’ main research interests are in accounting education and in financial reporting.  He organized the British Accounting Association’s Scottish conference in 2005.  He has published in journals such as The International Journal of Management Education, Tax Advisor, and the Journal of Management and Governance.  He has presented papers at conferences of the British Accounting Association and the European Accounting Association.  Currently, Chris is working on a collaborative paper with two other colleagues in the Business School, examining the relative importance of predictors of academic success in postgraduate accounting and finance studies.  Chris has also provided book and learning materials reviews for publishers such as Cengage, Pearson and McGraw Hill.

As Director of Taught Postgraduate Programmes for Accounting and Finance, Chris travels extensively, and he has helped set up collaborative postgraduate programme arrangements with other eminent institutions in nations such as China and Russia. Chris is a member of the College Higher Degrees Committee and the Business School Teaching and Learning Committee.
