Centre for Development Studies

The Centre for Development Studies (CDS) at the University of Glasgow is a leading institution in the UK for postgraduate study and research in the area of development studies. CDS is based in the Adam Smith Business School and a number of subject groups from across the College of Social Sciences contribute to our postgraduate taught programmes, including Central and Eastern European Studies, Economic and Social History, Law, Politics, Sociology, and Urban Studies.

The CDS offers a series of integrated taught MSc programmes providing specialist training in a variety of areas of contemporary concern, designed to meet the needs of those involved with, and interested in, problems and policies in developing countries. While our courses are at the research frontier, they devote special attention to the policy and practical implications of the different theories, giving our courses a clear applied flavour.

The CDS has been especially effective in forging links with the policy community. Staff at the CDS have been research collaborators in and consultants to a number of international and government organisations around the world and private sector institutions, including the IMF, World Bank, United Nations agencies, the Commonwealth Secretariat, government ministries and numerous central banks.
