The Adam Smith Business School was delighted to welcome business leaders from all over Scotland to attend ‘Exploring Futures: Open Strategy Workshop’, on 27 March 2017, which explored challenges and opportunities from factors, such as Brexit, Indiref and high velocity markets.

The workshop was led by strategy expert Luciano C. Oviedo of the Intel Corporation and covered the strategic challenges and uncertainties occurring in Scotland, given the vote to exit the EU and the potential of a second independence referendum. Other guest speakers included Iain Docherty, Professor of Public Policy and Governance at the Adam Smith Business School and Michael Sproule, a renowned Consultant Radiologist for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

During the workshop, celebrated speakers discussed possible alternative futures for Scotland and the range of possibilities that could be faced and how to strategise them for prospective challenges in the business sector. Participants, predominantly from private companies, gave their views on Scotland’s potential future and the knock-on effect for businesses.

The event, organised and chaired by Dr Ignacio Canales, Reader in Strategy at Adam Smith Business School, was a huge success and received outstanding feedback. One participant commented: “I gained many useful takeaways and really enjoyed the style of presentation, which made us question ourselves and the lens that we view the world through”.

This workshop was funded by an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Impact Acceleration Grant and is associated with the Strategy and Decision Making Research Cluster at the Adam Smith Business School.
