Glasgow has been voted the third best UK destination after London and Manchester by the hotel and destination review and advice site, TripAdvisor.

The Travellers’ Choice (Destinations) Awards celebrate the top ten places to visit in the UK and are based on visitor ratings of hotels, restaurants and attractions over a twelve month period.

Glasgow is the only Scottish destination to feature in this year’s awards and the city is described by TripAdvisor as “… a friendly, bustling town with imposing 19th-century buildings, vibrant theatre life, the most talked-about independent music scene outside the USA and watering holes that run the gamut from trendy bars to traditional pubs.”

The City’s public transport system is also praised by the site and Glasgow is cited as being the gateway to the Highlands and Islands.

The top three attractions travellers recommend when visiting Glasgow are The Glasgow School of Art, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, and the University of Glasgow.

After Glasgow, Liverpool and Belfast were voted fourth and fifth and were followed by Blackpool, Birmingham, Torquay, Llandudno and Bristol.

Angus Struthers of TripAdvisor, said: "These awards honour the world's best destinations as decided by those judges that really matter – travellers."
