Strategic Management Society's Special Conference in Glasgow

Issued: Wed, 20 Mar 2013 15:58:00 GMT

The Adam Smith Business School is delighted to be hosting this prestigious conference, which takes place on 20th - 22nd June 2013 at the Marriott Hotel, Glasgow. This will be the first time the conference has been held in Scotland and it has been 30 years since it was last held in the United Kingdom.

The Strategic Management Society has a unique history of bringing together the academic, business and consulting communities to foster better practice and better scholarship. The conference invites academics as well as consultants and practicing managers to discuss issues relating to strategy processes and practices, stakeholder involvement and academic, business and consulting engagement in complex settings.

The conference will focus attention on the unique challenges facing both strategists and strategy researchers as they address complexities within and beyond the firm. The need for effective engagement in strategy processes across businesses, industries and societies will be examined and the conference will bring attention to promising areas of theory that might help conceptualise strategy in such complex settings.

The Glasgow special conference will be co-chaired by Adam Smith Business School academics Ignacio Canales, Reader in Strategy and Donald MacLean, Professorial Research Fellow. Former Adam Smith Business School academic Robert MacIntosh, now of Heriot-Watt University, is the third co-host and comments, “It is a real honour for the SMS Special Conference to be hosted in Glasgow and to have such significant keynote speakers participating. I’m sure that the conference is going to offer a chance to engage with some of the world’s leading strategy scholars.”

A Doctoral Workshop will precede the SMS Special Conference in Glasgow on 20th June 2013. The workshop will be held at the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School and aims to equip doctoral students in Strategic Management (and related areas) with the tools to plan a successful publishing career after graduation.

Workshop spaces are limited and applications should be submitted by 25th March 2013.
