The University of Glasgow Business School is proud to announce the new Rising Star Award, offered by the John Mather Charitable Trust.
This new enterprise and innovation competition has been designed to identify and support Rising Stars and promote innovation that will benefit the socio-economic well being of the greater Strathclyde area of the West of Scotland.
The John Mather Trust is offering a prize of £10,000 to a current student that can prove he or she has the potential to deliver enterprise or innovation. The Trustees wish this prize, from the money that John Mather left in Trust, to be awarded to the best response to the question “What will you do with the money to further your career and to enhance your profession?”
The submission process will include an initial idea submission, formal proposals, and finally, a 15-minute presentation by finalists, before a panel of experts. The panel will include members from the Business School Strategic Advisory Board. Bill Mckay, a trustee for the John Mather Trust commented:
“The trustees are pleased to be working in conjunction with the business school to help young, talented individuals develop their entrepreneurial skills.” Professor Robbie Paton, Head of Graduate Studies at the Business School, commented:
“This award will offer our students the opportunity to make a real contribution to the Scottish economy, and at the same time, realise their own entrepreneurial potential, putting into practice the theories and skills they have gained from their postgraduate studies at Glasgow.”
The John Mather Charitable Trust honours the memory of John Mather who rose from office boy to Chairman of the Clyde Port Authority and had strong links with the Business Schools and the Arts in the West of Scotland.
The competition is open to all postgraduate students at the Business School who have been permanent residents of the Strathclyde area for at least five years.
