Glasgow Talks series continued with Dr Bridget McConnell CEO, Chief Executive of Glasgow Life. Dr McConnell discussed the Glasgow Tourism and Visitor Strategy which was launched earlier this year, along with the city's cultural proposition.    

Dr McConnell also shared her own insights into Glasgow, its development and its future, while also sharing her personal development and growth as a leader.

Biography:

Bridget McConnell leads a staff of 2,600, with an annual budget c. £110 million, helping to change lives through cultural, sporting and learning activity. Glasgow Life is a charity, which delivers services on behalf of Glasgow City Council.

Bridget is the strategic lead for building on Glasgow’s reputation as a vibrant, world-class home of cultural and sporting excellence. She also leads the city’s destination marketing, including the city’s PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW brand and award-winning convention business. 

Career highlights have included the £30 million refurbishment of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the opening of the £74 million Riverside Museum, which was recently named European Museum of the Year, and the opening of the £113 million Emirates Arena.

Bridget was instrumental in Glasgow securing the 2014 Commonwealth Games and was a member of the Organising Committee. At Glasgow 2014, Bridget was the Director of Culture and Ceremonies and oversaw the delivery of much of the required sport and cultural infrastructure. She led the creative narrative for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the Cultural Programme and the Queen’s Baton Relay.
