How to organise a class reunion
The MBA class of 2009 organised a reunion in Glasgow this summer. The meet was an informal catch-up of old friends and was attended by students from the part time as well as the full time course. The group met at Brel, a popular pub situated in Ashton Lane close to the University. The place especially carried good memories for this group, who had met here many times during their time at the School. “While meeting everyone after such a long time was great fun, the biggest kicker was that we were back in Glasgow and hung out at all the old places which were our regular spots,” said Revant Sharan, MBA graduate from 2009. “I think we should definitely do it again soon, maybe setup something on the calendar in advance so that more people can attend,” he added. While this was an informal event, this was supported by the Alumni office at the University and they intend to support such get-togethers in the future.
Are you a graduate of the Adam Smith Business School and would like to organise a reunion?
Reunions are a great way to meet up and socialise with your fellow classmates and they are easy to plan. Xiang Li, Alumni Officer for the School tells you how:
Step 1: Get in touch with the Alumni Officer (Xiang Li) at the Adam Smith Business School! We can help you compile lists of names and contact information for your fellow classmates and we can help you gather initial ideas.
Step 2: We can help you make contact with your classmates. Alternatively you may be able to track down classmate information by logging into GU World.
Step 3: Contact your classmates via email or write a letter. You will be able to assess your fellow classmates reaction and get an idea of numbers for your reunion.
Step 4: Choose a Venue. We have various venues on campus which can be tailored to individual reunion group needs from a formal sit down meal in the Gilbert Scott Building to a more informal event with cash bar in the Gilchrist Postgraduate Club. You can also incorporate a group tour of the campus or your former department. We will be happy to discuss these options with you when you have an idea of numbers and what you would like.
You are not restricted to only these venues. Previous organisers have chosen to use venues out with the University in the City or elsewhere. The world is your oyster.
Step 5: Choose a Date. Select a date for your reunion which you feel most of your class mates could attend. The more the merrier!
Step 6: Inform your Classmates! Let them know of the chosen venue and date.
Step 7: Place a notice in Aspire magazine, Avenue magazine and on our website. You may want to consider a small notice in the next edition of Aspire and Avenue and on our designated Alumni event/reunion web pages. This could contain dates, venues and your contact information. Alumni who have slipped the net may see the notice and make contact with you.
Step 8: Enjoy the Reunion. We will be happy to assist with any of the finer details of your reunion to help the event run smoothly. Don’t forget to let us know how the reunion goes and send us in any photographs and comments which we will gladly print in Aspire magazine.
