1451: University of Glasgow founded
1727: The Chair of Moral Philosophy is founded, marking the birth of the subject of Political Economy at Glasgow
1752: Glasgow alumnus Adam Smith, father of modern economic thought, appointed Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Glasgow
1893: The Department of Political Economy first established at the University of Glasgow – later to become Economics
1896: The Adam Smith Chair of Political Economy first established
1925: Johnstone Smith Chair of Accountancy established
1952: The University of Glasgow begins to offer training and executive education for local managers
1968: Bachelor of Accountancy Degree introduced at Glasgow
1976: The MBA programme first offered at Glasgow
1980: The Master of International Accounting and Finance Management (MAcc) introduced at Glasgow
1983: The Centre for Development Studies (CDS) is established
1986: Business School formally established as a distinct unit within the University of Glasgow
