Aerospace MSc Bursary Scheme 2013
Description: This scheme has been developed in partnership with leading employers to help the UK stay ahead of its global competitors by developing the sector’s professional workforce. Announced by the Prime Minister at the Farnborough International Air Show in July 2012, funding from the UK government, the NI Administration and industry will provide up to 500 bursaries over the next three years.
The Aerospace MSc Bursary Scheme aims to generate more aerospace MSc qualified professionals with high level skills who will work in the sector; to up-skill the existing UK aerospace workforce and reinforce the supply of skilled people with knowledge and expertise in key areas of technology for the future.
Eligibility: Whatever your background you will need strong motivation and firm commitment to a career in aerospace in the UK. You may be:
- Currently employed in the UK aerospace sector (including firms in the sector supply chain), applying with the support of your employer (See website for further information on terms and conditions);
- Not yet employed in the sector but with practical or financial support from a UK aerospace company (including the sector supply chain);
- Not yet employed in the sector and applying directly to the scheme as an independent candidate, i.e. without practical or financial support from a UK aerospace firm (including the sector’s supply chain). If you are successful, the Scheme will introduce you to relevant employers.
Bursaries will be awarded to candidates who can demonstrate their commitment to working in the UK aerospace sector and who have been offered a place on an eligible MSc programme. Applications will be accepted before an MSc place is offered but will be conditional on receiving, and taking up, the MSc offer from a university.
Value: The scheme will pay MSc tuition fees (up to £9,500) on behalf of successful applicants.

Carnegie Trust
Information: A member of staff of a Scottish university must nominate applicants. The Trust also administers a small number of Caledonian Research Foundation Scholarships under similar regulations. Nomination forms are available from the Carnegie Trust.
Eligibility: The Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland awards a small number of research scholarships to graduates of Scottish Universities who achieve first-class Honours.

Clark (Mile End) Trust Awards
Information: Awards of varying value are available from this Trust to students who
either:
intend to enter the University of Glasgow or the University of Strathclyde for the first time in September 2011
or:
are first class honours graduates of either University proceeding to second or higher degree study in 2011.
Eligibility: Eligibility for these awards is limited by the terms and conditions prescribed by the Trust’s benefactor. Further information is available on the Senate Office website
FindAMasters Masters Scholarships 2013
Description: FindAMasters is offering 8 Postgraduate scholarships for students wishing to start a Masters course in autumn 2013 at any European (EU) institution.
Eligibility: The Scholarships are open to students of any nationality and are available for study at any state-accredited EU or EEA University. Candidates must have formally accepted a place on a course to be eligible. A full list of Terms and Conditions will be sent to registrants before they apply.
Amount: 1 general award worth £1000, and 7 x £500 subject specific awards:
- Masters scholarship in Arts
- Masters scholarship in Biological Sciences
- Masters scholarship in Medical Sciences and Health
- Masters scholarship in Business, Finance and Law
- Masters scholarship in Engineering, Maths and Computing
- Masters scholarship in Humanities and social Sciences
- Masters scholarship in Physical, Chemical and earth Sciences.
Awards will be paid via your university.

Graham Trust Bursary Scheme
Description: The Graham Trust was established by Charter from the City of Glasgow in 1759 with the original aim of “….distribution to persons of the name of Graham or descendants of persons of that name such sums as they shall just requisite and to put poor boys of the name or descendants of such persons of the name, to schools and trades, in order to enable them to gain a livelihood and to be useful members of society.”
The Trust now provides one-off bursaries of up to £500 to students with the surname of Graham studying at higher/further education establishments in the Glasgow area.

GU68 Engineers Trust
Description: The GU 1968 Engineers Trust was established by the 1968 Engineering Graduates of Glasgow University for the purposes of the advancement of education and, in particular, for the provision of benefit to or for students studying Engineering at the University of Glasgow in Scotland.
Value: The value of any Award is likely to be between £250 and £500.
Eligibility: Each year, the Trust invites written applications from, or on behalf of, candidates in any Engineering discipline for Awards to help to meet extraordinary costs associated with projects which can demonstrate a contribution to Engineering research or practice. The Trust can also consider applications to provide assistance to students with special financial needs.

Henry Dryerre Scholarship
Description: The Royal Society of Edinburgh established a Scholarship in Medical or Veterinary Physiology, which is administered by the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland and it is offered in the 2010-2011 session.
Value: £14,800 for the academic year 2010-11
Eligibility: Applicants must hold a degree of a Scottish University with first-class honours or, if in their final year, to be expected to achieve first-class honours; they must also be a citizen of one of the countries of the European Union. Tenure of a Henry Dryerre Scholarship must be at a Scottish Institution.
How to Apply: Applicants for the Scholarship must be nominated by a Professor, Reader or Lecturer in a Scottish University. Applications must be submitted through a member of staff on the appropriate form, copies of which can be obtained from the Carnegie Trust at the address below or downloaded from our website.

The Panasonic Trust Fellowship

Description: On 2 October 1997, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd marked the 25th anniversary of the founding of Panasonic UK Ltd by generously donating a further £500,000 to the Panasonic Trust to enable it to broaden its activities in the professional development of UK engineers. Income generated by these funds was has been used to support the Panasonic Trust Fellowships since 1998.
The objective of the Fellowships is to provide financial support to selected graduate engineers wishing to study full-time Masters’ degree courses in subjects with a bias towards energy, sustainability, infrastructure, environmental technology and water resource engineering.
Value: Each Fellowship has a financial value of £8,000 and is payable in two parts: £6,000 is paid upon registration with the remaining £2,000 payable upon successful graduation.
Eligibility: Applicants should
- be a UK citizen;
- be qualified to degree level in engineering or a closely related discipline;
- have membership at any grade of a professional engineering institution accredited by the Engineering Council as a licenced member institution;
- have some industrial experience, which may be from a sandwich course work placement or a ‘year out’ before commencing university;
- not be in receipt of an EPSRC or other award to study the respective course; and
- hold an offer for one of the accredited MSc programmes (Global Water Sustainability at the University of Glasgow has just been added to this list).
How to apply: The application consisting of a completed application form, two passport sized photographs and an up-to-date CV must be submitted no later than 30 July 2010. Any application received after this date or those which remain incomplete will not be considered for interview.

Postgrad Solutions Global and US LLM Study Bursaries
Description: Postgrad Solutions Ltd is offering two Global and US LLM Study Bursaries each to the value of £500. They are open to both international and UK students, and aim to help students fund their chosen Master of Laws programme anywhere in the world or specifically in the United States. The winners will be announced in Autumn 2013.
Eligibility: Applicants must be a member of the free-of-charge Postgrad Solutions Student Service, and have an offer of a place for a LLM degree commencing September 2013.
Scholarships are open to both international and UK students.
Value: £500. Payment of the award will be made directly to the University and will be discounted from your tuition fees as appropriate.

Renfrewshire Educational Trust
Description: The Renfrewshire Educational Trust was established in 1936 through the amalgamation of several specific endowment funds to provide assistance for educational purthose in financial need. The Trust is administered by Renfrewshire Council.The Board of Governors has agreed to make an award of £3,400 in August 2013 to one student who is intending to undertake a one year full time Taught Masters Programme at a university within the United Kingdom. It should be noted that the award must only be used as payment towards course fees and the award will be payable directly to the successful applicant’s university.
Value: £3400. Student Grant awards of around £200 - 300 can also be provided to eligible students in each year of their course. Strict criteria and conditions apply and all awards are means-tested.
Eligibility: To qualify for this award the following criteria must be met:
- Applicants must be presently in the final year of an undergraduate degree programme, or, graduated in academic year 2010/11 from one of the following institutions: University of Glasgow, West of Scotland, Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian; Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
- Applicants must have had permanent residence in the East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde or Renfrewshire local authority areas for a minimum of 3 years in the last 10 years;
- Applicants' total household income must not be in excess of £34,195 gross (NB: Up-to-date financial details will require to be submitted);
- Applicants must provide two references confirming academic achievement and character, also a personal statement on how an award would assist with their intended career path.

SAAS - The Postgraduate Certificate of Education
Value: The award pays fees and provides maintenance funding in the form of an income contingent loan. Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria above.
Eligibility: The SAAS provides funding for Scottish domiciled students studying full time postgraduate courses. This means that you will have to have been ordinarily resident in the British Isles for the three years immediately proceeding the academic year in which the course begins. If you are not a UK or EU national you must be settled in the UK as indicated by the Immigration Act of 1971. You must also be ordinarily resident in Scotland at the time of application. Responsibility for the Scottish Studentship Scheme has now been transferred to the AHRB. Previously this was administered by the SAAS.
