Commonwealth Shared Scholarships
Description: Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are a joint initiative between the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (with funding from DFID) and UK universities, to support scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the UK. Shared Scholarships are offered on an annual basis for Master’s study only.
Value: The scholarship will cover the full tuition and a monthly stipend including air fares to and from the UK, a grant up to £225 to cover thesis costs, and a grant up to £200 for study travel.
Eligibility: Candidates are normally expected to meet the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship criteria. See Applicant Prospectus.
To be considered by the University of Glasgow, applicants must
- be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) a developing Commonwealth country, and not currently be living or studying in a developed country. A list of eligible countries is available in the Applicant Prospectus.
- hold a first degree at either first or upper second class level with extensive relevant work experience
- provide evidence of English proficiency at the time of application. Check the University of Glasgow entry criteria.
- have not previously studied for one year or more in a developed country
- be able to confirm in writing that neither they or their families would otherwise be able to pay for the proposed course of study
- be willing to confirm that they will return to their home country as soon as their period of study is complete
- hold an offer of a place for the one of the programmes listed below before 15 March 2013. Applications must include a transcript to date, 2 academic references, English proficiency test and a personal statement detailing how they will benefit from the scholarship with their application. How to apply:
Submit an application for your chosen programme and include all documents and information listed above. You must obtain an unconditional offer of a place before 15 March 2013. Incomplete applications and conditional offers will not be considered. Following the closing date for applications, the university will select candidate and ask them to complete the CSC’s application form using the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships Electronic Application System (EAS).

Erasmus Mundus International Masters in Russian, Central & East European Studies (IMRCEES) Scholarships
Description: The IMRCEES offers you the unique opportunity to combine a year of study in Glasgow in the UK with a year studying overseas (in English) at one of our renowned partner institutions and leads to the award of a double degree. It is recognised by the European Commission as an Erasmus Mundus Masters Course. Graduates of the programme will be equipped with the skills to address the myriad of socio-economic and political/security challenges of the 21st century in Russia, Central and Eastern Europe and its near/abroad neighbourhood.
Value: There are two different forms of scholarships, Category A (non-European applicants) and Category B (European applicants). The scholarships' terms depend on the student's country of origin/residence and main academic and/or professional activity.
Scholarship students will receive a fee waiver to cover the difference between the Erasmus Mundus scholarship contribution to participation costs and the actual participation costs. For Category A scholarship students this amounts to a fee waiver of €500 per semester and Category B scholarship students will receive a fee waiver of €250 per semester. The participation costs cover all tuition fees and health insurance; they do not include accommodation as well as other living expenses and travel.
Eligibility: The IMRCEES programme offers Erasmus Mundus scholarships to students from around the world.

Fulbright Commission
Information: Established in 1946, the Fulbright Scholarship program aims to increase mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries, through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills.
Approximately 20 Fulbright Scholarships are awarded each year to US graduates, regardless of age or subject, to study outside the USA.
These awards are made on a competitive basis and are for the academic year of nine months. However, students on a 12 month taught Masters degree may be eligible to receive a three month extension. Awards are available for lecturing or advanced research for a minimum of three months. Fellowships are offered for research librarians and academic administrators to spend three months gaining experience in the UK. Arts fellowships and professional fellowships are awarded to individuals in a variety of fields to enable them to spend a period of six to nine months in the UK. The Fulbright Commission promotes educational and cultural exchange between the United States and the United Kingdom in order to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen relations between the two countries. Fulbright makes awards through open competition to:
- outstanding graduates who demonstrate leadership qualities
- potential leaders of professional, academic and artistic excellence who are recognised in their field.
Value: The awards cover fares, tuition fees, maintenance, books and incidental expenses.
Eligibility: Awards are made US graduate students for pre-doctoral study in the UK. Minimum grade point average: 3.5. Priority will be given to those students who completed their first degree within the last five years. Students can follow a taught course, carry out doctoral research for a US PhD, or spend a year in independent study related to their career.

Santander Scholarships
Description: The University of Glasgow-Santander Scholarship offers awards of £5000 as a tuition fee discount for our one year postgraduate taught programmes for 2013/14.
Eligibility: Candidates must be citizens of the 14 countries in the Santander scheme; Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Spain, Uruguay, Venezuela and USA. Candidates will be selected on the basis of their academic ability and the quality of their personal statement.
Value: £5000 tuition fee discount for one year full-time courses.

Scotland's Saltire Scholarships
Description: Gain an internationally recognised qualification and take your career to new heights.This exciting scholarship opportunity is open to Canadian, Chinese, Indian and US nationals and is aimed at encouraging bright, talented and hard working individuals to live, work and study in Scotland. Awards are available for full time graduate study. Courses must be masters programmes, and can be either taught or research.
Value: The scholarship is a total of £2000 (British pounds) towards the cost tuition fees.
Eligibility: This exciting scholarship opportunity is open to citizens from USA, Canada, the Republic of China or India. Only applicants with a very good undergraduate degree will be considered (3.2 GPA or equivalent) and students wishing to apply for this scholarship should have already received either a Conditional or Unconditional offer from the University of Glasgow and be able to demonstrate that they can meet the costs of living and remaining tuition fees. The scholarships are not available to US students who have already completed their undergraduate studies at an institution in Scotland. The course must be full time and delivered in Scotland and not online or by distance learning.
