British Marshall Scholarships
Information: The Marshall Scholarships offer top quality US students the opportunity to study at any British University for at least two years. Up to 40 new Scholarships are awarded annually. A Marshall Scholarship is tenable for 22 months (two academic years). Candidates may apply in any discipline leading to the award of a degree from any British University. The closing date is normally in October. Full details on regional application centres and the on-line application forms are available from the Marshall website.
Value: University fees, cost of living expenses, annual book grant, thesis grant, research and daily travel grants, fares to and from the USA and dependent’s allowance.
Eligibility: Open only to United States citizens who (at the time they take up their Scholarship) hold a first degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States with a minimum GPA of 3.7. To qualify for awards tenable from October 2010, candidates must have graduated from their undergraduate college or university after April 2007.

British Institute of Persian Studies
Description: Grants to assist scholars wishing to pursue research in all fields of Persian/Iranian and wider Persian world studies are invited. These are at postgraduate level and include anthropology, archaeology, art, history, linguistics, literature, philosophy, religion. political science and cognate subjects. Grants are awarded mainly to cover travel to and research within Iran and wider Persian world. Funds are not available for course work, nor will college or university fees be paid.

China Scholarships Council
Description: This scholarship programme, which is overseen by China Scholarship Council (affiliated to the Chinese Ministry of Education), was approved in early 2007 and funds Chinese university students to study overseas for a Phd degree. The aim of the programme is to sponsor first-class Chinese students to study for Phd degrees in primarily science and technology fields at first-class universities overseas.
Value: The scholarships cover air fares and living costs for up to 4 years. The University of Glasgow has agreed to waive tuition fees for successful CSC applicants. PhD topics should be chosen from the academic areas listed below. University of Glasgow has signed CSC agreements with eight Chinese partner universities. While applications are welcomed from all students who meet the entry requirements, preference will be given to students from our partner universities. The following Colleges have agreed scholarships:

In providing tuition fee waivers for CSC sponsored students, University of Glasgow will give preference to students from the following partner universities:
- Central China Normal University
- Huazhong University of Science and Technology
- Nankai University
- Sichuan University
- Sun Yat-Sen University
- Tianjin University
- Xian Jiaotong University
- Wuhan University
Please note that not all Chinese Universities are eligible under CSC guidelines. Please contact your home University in China for an up to date list of institutions that are eligible to apply. Eligible institions are normally those deemed 985 Universities.
How to Apply: Applications are received by CSC via the participating Chinese institutions between 20 March and 5April every year. At the time of applying, applicants must have already received:
- an unconditional offer from University of Glasgow
- confirmation from the University of Glasgow that tuition will be waived on gaining CSC stipend
- a recommendation from the applicant's home (Chinese) university.

Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme
Information: Commonwealth Scholarships are available each year to fund Commonwealth citizens' study in the UK for undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. A range of scholarships are available for citizens of Commonwealth countries other than the UK. Further information is available on the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission website.
How to apply: Application is made through the nominating agency (frequently the Education Ministry/Government Department or similar) of the applicant's home country. The nominating agency selects the best applications and forwards these to the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission. Please check out the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission website above for individual countries' eligibility criteria and deadlines for application.
Daiwa Foundation Tohoku Scholarships
Description: In response to the 11 March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in the north east of Japan, the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, in partnership with the British Council in Japan, has launched a £250,000 scholarship fund to support Japanese students in the Tohoku region.
The aim of this initiative is to support post-secondary level students from any part of Tohoku1, in particular those areas most affected by the recent events (Miyagi, Fukushima and Iwate prefectures) seeking to study for a period at an educational institution in the United Kingdom. Applications will also be considered from students from the Tohoku region who are currently studying in the UK but who require financial support to continue their studies. Moreover, we welcome applications from those students from Tohoku who seek to contribute to the recovery and regeneration of the region.
Scholarship applications may be submitted for the following types of courses, beginning in 2011, 2012 or 2013:
• Undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses (including foundation programmes) in all subject areas
• PhD and post-doctoral research programmes
• Vocational courses at universities and colleges of further education
• English language courses (e.g. pre-sessional courses, English language summer schools)
Value: The amount of funding available will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Sufficient funding will be awarded to cover fees, living expenses and travel expenses for an applicant’s intended course, in line with its level and duration. Therefore, applicants are required to explain their vision for the future and financial plans as part of the application process. Priority will be given to students who can demonstrate seriousness of purpose and financial need.
Eligibility: Successful applicants must secure a place on a course of study at a UK institution in order to take up funding.

Fulbright Commission
Information: Established in 1946, the Fulbright Scholarship program aims to increase mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries, through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills.
Approximately 20 Fulbright Scholarships are awarded each year to US graduates, regardless of age or subject, to study outside the USA.
These awards are made on a competitive basis and are for the academic year of nine months. However, students on a 12 month taught Masters degree may be eligible to receive a three month extension. Awards are available for lecturing or advanced research for a minimum of three months. Fellowships are offered for research librarians and academic administrators to spend three months gaining experience in the UK. Arts fellowships and professional fellowships are awarded to individuals in a variety of fields to enable them to spend a period of six to nine months in the UK. The Fulbright Commission promotes educational and cultural exchange between the United States and the United Kingdom in order to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen relations between the two countries. Fulbright makes awards through open competition to:
- outstanding graduates who demonstrate leadership qualities
- potential leaders of professional, academic and artistic excellence who are recognised in their field.
Value: The awards cover fares, tuition fees, maintenance, books and incidental expenses.
Eligibility: Awards are made US graduate students for pre-doctoral study in the UK. Minimum grade point average: 3.5. Priority will be given to those students who completed their first degree within the last five years. Students can follow a taught course, carry out doctoral research for a US PhD, or spend a year in independent study related to their career.

GU68 Engineers Trust
Description: The GU 1968 Engineers Trust was established by the 1968 Engineering Graduates of Glasgow University for the purposes of the advancement of education and, in particular, for the provision of benefit to or for students studying Engineering at the University of Glasgow in Scotland.
Value: The value of any Award is likely to be between £250 and £500.
Eligibility: Each year, the Trust invites written applications from, or on behalf of, candidates in any Engineering discipline for Awards to help to meet extraordinary costs associated with projects which can demonstrate a contribution to Engineering research or practice. The Trust can also consider applications to provide assistance to students with special financial needs.

Inlaks Foundation Scholarship
Description: Inlaks Scholarships provide young Indian people a chance to further their education and skills by having the opportunity to study abroad at a leading American, UK or European institution.
There are two types of scholarships available: one for university courses and one for specific programmes proposed by the candidate.
Eligibility: Candidates must be of Indian nationality, resident in India at time of applying, and have completed a first degree in India. They must also be under 30 years old on 1st July in the year of application.
