PsyRING has excellent access to comprehensive clinical resources within Glasgow and across Scotland. These extensive clinical resources provide excellent opportunities for research that bridges the pre-clinical - clinical interface and can provide insights into the early stages of disorders, and the impact in humans of putative treatments.
Specialist clinical resources available to PsyRING include:
- Dedicated clinical input into preclinical paradigms in order to maximise their relevance
- The Glasgow Clinical Research Facility at the Western Infirmary for clinical studies eg Healthy Volunteer Phase 1 studies
- State of the art neuroimaging (fMRI, SPECT) facilities for clinical research
- Effective recruitment of study participants from the Scottish population in all the main psychiatric disorder areas
- Support from the Scottish Mental Health Research Network and local NHS R&D offices
- Clinical resource for clinical and neuropsychological assessments, including experienced psychiatric research nurse
- Available BioBank of DNA and tissue samples from a large number of ascertained cases and healthy controls, post-mortem CNS tissue and comprehensive clinical data
