Objectives

This programme is designed for home and overseas students, currently practicing as qualified Clinical Psychologists and those with a higher degree in an equivalent health related field.  In particular the programme aims to:

  1. Develop advanced knowledge and understanding of BSM from a psychological perspective

  2. Provide students with an understanding of how BSM advanced knowledge and methodologies can be applied to assess, diagnose, and formulate treatment plans pertaining to disorders of sleep and wakefulness in children, adults and older adults

  3. Develop competencies in specialist professional practice and in extending existing professional roles to include BSM

  4. Develop graduates with the capacity to be leaders within their own profession to shape and direct BSM services through strategic thinking, training and supervision of behavioural sleep practitioners
  5. Equip students with advanced skills applicable to their work environment and to engage in the advancement of BSM

  6. Provide skills to critically appraise evidence so as to contribute to the delivery of evidence based advanced practice

  7. Develop core skills in research, including critical review of the literature, the design and conduct of ethical scientific research, statistics and data handling, and the interpretation and discussion of research findings

  8. Develop skills in the communication and dissemination of research findings and the advancement of good clinical practice

  9. Points g. and h. will be associated specifically with successful completion of a research portfolio. This portfolio will provide a solid base in research methodology intended also to be useful in any further academic, clinical or research post
