Admission

This one year full-time/ two-year part time programme is designed to meet the need of health professionals who wish to develop skills in evidence-based practice in behavioural sleep medicine (BSM) and related audit and research. As an MSc the programme includes a research component; alternatively the programme may be followed at the PGDip level.

The programme is open to professionals with a masters degree (e.g. MSc, MRes) or equivalent in a health related field (e.g. Psychology, Nursing, Neurophysiology), or a doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, DClinPsy) in a health related field or a medical or dental degree (e.g. MBCHB, BDS). Applicants must also hold a valid professional licence to practice/ practicing certificate issued by a recognised professional body.

The programme does not confer a professional qualification to practice in Behavioural Sleep Medicine. Individuals undertaking the programme are required to practice within their own professional codes and under their existing valid health professional registration or certification. All candidates need to recognise, therefore, the need to work within their level of expertise and with appropriate supervision. It is the view of the course team that Behavioural Sleep Medicine services should normally be directed by a doctorally trained Clinical Psychologist with advanced knowledge in sleep medicine practices.
