Imaging at the CVR

Image of the SMSB taken from the river

Welcome to the CVR’s imaging page. Imaging is a vital tool to the modern virologist, literally shedding light on viral behaviour and virus-host relationships. The CVR is very fortunate to possess state-of-the-art imaging equipment including a Zeiss Airyscan, which facilitates the acquisition of super-resolution images. The Airyscan is attached to a Zeiss LSM880 confocal microscope, this being just one of four confocal microscopes in the Centre. These instruments, along with the Zeiss Observer Z.1 microscope for live cell time-lapse imaging and the Zeiss Robopalm IV laser capture microscope, keep the CVR at the cutting edge of current imaging technology.
