Research

The focus of our research is cardiovascular disease.  We are developing specific agendas within each theme to foster staff integration in the short term, to promote new research collaborations, innovation and strategies for future funding.

Our Research Themes

• Vascular, Pathophysiology and Therapy
• Heart Research
• Diabetes, Renal, Endocrinology and Metabolic Disease
• Genetics, Genomics and Systems Medicine
• Clinical Trials and Implementation

We will continue to build upon key strengths within these frameworks we are building formal and productive links with other Research Institutes and Colleges within the University and fostering and maximizing interactions with NHS colleagues.  Exciting links have already been established with the NHS, Golden Jubilee National Heart & Lung Hospital & the Robertson Centre for Biostatics.

This multidisciplinary approach to modern research through cross thematic interactions are currently concentrating on

• Stroke pathophysiology and medicine
• Systems biology and medicine
• Cardiac biology and signalling
• Stem cell biology and therapy

We will foster further strategic interactions where appropriate within Scotland, the UK and other Universities worldwide to create opportunities for long term research opportunities. We will strive to fully engage industry in order to create strategic links for furthering our research goals and strategic objectives.
