Dr McLeod completed his clinical psychology training in New Zealand and practiced in the public health service there for two years before moving to London and joining the NHS.  He then worked as a Clinical Psychologist and Consultant Clinical Psychologist for the treatment resistant psychosis services at West London Mental Health Trust while completing his PhD at Imperial College.  In 2003 he moved to Australia as a Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of Wollongong, NSW.  He also acted as Deputy Director and then Director of Clinical Psychology training before moving back to the UK in 2011 to take up the role as Programme Director for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Glasgow.

Dr McLeod's research interests span the neuropsychology of autobiographical memory functioning in schizophrenia, psychological treatments for psychotic spectrum disorders, and the understanding of mechanisms of change in psychological therapies.
