Professor Morrison graduated from Glasgow University in 1982 and, after vocational training in Paisley, completed a Scottish Home and Health Department research fellowship in general practice, gaining an MSc by research into the social effects and stigma of epilepsy. She became a GP principal in Bathgate in 1987 and then a lecturer in Glasgow in 1990.

Research into the development and evaluation of the first GP attachment in Glasgow formed the basis of her PhD.

She was promoted to a personal chair in 2001. She was Head of the Undergraduate Medical School from 2007 until 2010 and is now Dean for Learning and Teaching in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences.

Research interests include: primary care management of depression; learning disabilities; medical education; and RCTs. Recent projects as PI have included research into antidepressant prescribing and management of sickness absence in people with depression by general practitioners.
