Professor Gumley is a clinical psychologist and Professor of Psychological Therapy based in the Institute of Health and Wellbeing. He is Clinical Lead for the Scottish Mental Health Research Network. He is an experienced clinical trials researcher having lead or collaborated on numerous trials of psychological therapies in Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder and Personality Disorders.

He has close links with the Glasgow ESTEEM First Episode Psychosis Service. Through a CSO funded Health Improvement Grant, this group has now introduced routine collection of clinical data relating to both service users and their families. This will provide a unique well characterized prospective cohort of individuals with First Episode Psychosis providing an ideal platform for the development of studies in a number of areas.
