Applications are now closed for 2013.  The application process will open for 2014 intake in late 2013.

Molecular functions in disease is an interdisciplinary 4-year PhD programme addressing fundamental problems in biomedical science using contemporary methods. Research projects are available in a wide variety of disciplines including structural biology, medicinal and chemical biology, cell biology, biochemistry and molecular genetics. These approaches are being applied to answering questions relevant to understanding the pathogenic processes in a diverse array of diseases including those associated with microbial, parasitic and viral infections, inherited disorders, autoimmune responses, and other acquired disorders including diabetes, heart disease and Alzheimer.

The Programme is fully funded by the University of Glasgow and the Wellcome Trust. It includes an initial year of intensive training, followed by a 3-year PhD research project. Our aim is to provide researchers with a strong and balanced launch to their career and offers significant advantages over the conventional PhD. The Programme attracts students of high calibre from around the world and from diverse scientific backgrounds, and we play to these strengths, allowing the students considerable input into the design of their PhD projects.

The funding package provides a generous stipend (currently over £19,000 per annum) plus research expenses. Full tuition fees are paid for all students and excellent overseas students are encouraged to apply.

These pages provide additional information on all aspects of the course. You can also consult the individual research pages of all our supervisors.
