Visiting Senior Research Fellow Scheme
The Adam Smith Research Foundation (ASRF) aims to promote and sustain research within the UK, European and international arenas, and to engage College of Social Sciences staff in key policy debates and in shaping policy for the future. It provides the environment in which to foster further links between the College's disciplines and supports the development of multidisciplinary research both within and beyond the University.
The Foundation aims to support and encourage multidisciplinary research and collaboration within the 7 cross-College Research Themes:
- Globalisation, Competitiveness and Sustainability
- Governance, Policy, Accountability and Risk Management
- Health and Wellbeing
- Inequalities, Inclusion, Identities and Social Change
- Justice, Rights, Security and Conflict
- Learning Across the Professions
- People, Places, Engagement and Change
To further these aims the Adam Smith Research Foundation invites applications for Visiting Senior Research Fellows. Visiting Fellows are expected to conduct a discrete research project during their appointment, and candidates must demonstrate how their research will fit with one (and preferably more than one) of the College's research themes.
The position of ASRF Visiting Senior Research Fellow is intended for academics of some seniority in their home institution: research leaders with a minimum of 8-10 years of post-doctoral experience.
In addition to pursuing their own research project during their appointment, Fellows will be expected to engage with academics and postgraduate researchers in the University to promote multidisciplinary approaches to their research area through seminars, workshops and lectures. Innovative methodological contributions will be particularly welcome. Fellows must also contribute a written working paper (based upon their project) by the end of their visit for publication to the ASRF Working Papers series (in addition to other outputs).
Fellows will be entitled to claim expenses up to £7,000 to cover travel, research costs and a contribution towards cost of living expenses. In addition, office accommodation, IT and Library access will be provided. Fellows will be expected to be resident at the University for a minimum of 3 months (normally on sabbatical or study leave from their home institution).
Fellow Scheme dates:
- 2011/12 Semester 2 (from January 2012)
- 2012/13 Semester 1 (from October 2012)
