We are looking for applicants who can deliver excellent research outcomes in a multi-disciplinary environment. We welcome interest from any discipline that can contribute to our specialist research fields, especially those with a background in engineering, physics and chemistry who have an interest in applying their knowledge to biological sciences.

Our focus is on producing highly-skilled research professionals at the life science interface between engineering and the biological and physical sciences. 

There is a critical need for early career researchers with broad, multidisciplinary expertise and the ability to communicate and interact across traditional academic boundaries. Coupled with this, they need possess the vision and insight required to develop the technologies that will form the cornerstone of future biological research.

We provide the research environment and training needed to develop these attributes.

Programme structure

The four-year studentship has two components:

Masters in Research

If successful, you will be registered for a Masters in Research in the first year. You will receive training and practical experience in all relevant areas and will complete two 14-week laboratory projects.

PhD

You will have the opportunity to experience all four University environments prior to final selection of a PhD project and supervisor. You will then continue your PhD studies at the University of your choice.

Funding

There are ten fully funded studentships available covering fees, stipend, research and travel costs. The funding is provided by the EPSRC, the BBSRC and the host Universities.
