Vice Principal
Professor Steven P Beaumont, Vice Principal for Research & Enterprise
Steven Beaumont (Steve) has overall responsibility for the University's Research & Knowledge Transfer strategy and policies, and their delivery, and for operational matters including negotiations and relationships with research sponsors and strategic partners. He is also responsibile for the University’s enterprise activities, including research links with industry and the promotion of spinout companies. He chairs and sits on many University Committees and Groups as well as external Committees.
Steve is the International Dean for the Middle East at the University.
Steve is also the Director of the Glasgow Research Partnership in Engineering.

Vice Principal's Team
Dr Elizabeth Adams, Researcher Development Officer
Elizabeth Adams coordinates the Researcher Development initiative, providing transferable skills training for postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers. Elizabeth has a PhD in Chemistry and worked on Educational Projects for the Royal Society of Chemistry before joining the University in 2008.

Mrs Kristy Bremner, Research Planning Manager
Kristy obtained a BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College (Boston, MA) in 2002, followed by an MPhil in Scottish Literature from the University of Glasgow in 2004 and an MLitt in Publishing Studies from the University of Stirling in 2006. She joined Research & Enterprise in 2007.

Ms Gail Brotherston, Personal Assistant to Vice Principal
Gail Brotherston joined the University in August 2000 as PA to the Vice-Principal (Research & Enterprise). Gail is responsible for overseeing the day to day management and running of the Vice Principal’s Office. Gail has a wide and varied remit in this role.
Gail achieved her SVQ Level 3 in Management in December 2000.

Ms Mary Beth Kneafsey, Postgraduate Research Administrator
Mary Beth Kneafsey joined the Office of the Vice Principal (Research and Enterprise) in December 2010 as Postgraduate Research Strategy Administrator. She has held a number of positions within the University since 2001, most recently as Executive Education Programmes Manager and Alumni Officer in the Business School. Her role within the VPO is to manage the activity of the Postgraduate Research Office and to work with the VP(R&E) and Deans for Graduate Studies Committee to drive the development and implementation of University-wide policy relating to PGR students and the enhancement of the PGR experience. Mary Beth has a B.A. in French Language and Culture from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.Ed. (Lifelong Learning) from the Open University and an MBA from Glasgow.

Ms Kerry Revel, Research Strategy & Policy Manager
Kerry Revel joined the University as Research Strategy and Policy Manager in May 2005. Working closely with the Executive Assistant to the Vice Principal for Research & Enterprise, her role is to support the processes of implementing and monitoring the University's research strategy and research-related policies. Kerry acts as Clerk to the Research Planning and Strategy Committee. Kerry graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1997 with an Honours degree in Scots Law and a Diploma in Legal Practice. She worked within the Research & Enterprise Department between August 1997 and April 1999 at which time she was responsible for the drafting, negotiation, and execution of contracts funded by public and private sector sponsors for the sale of research-related activity. Between April 1999 and May 2005, Kerry worked as a solicitor in private practice, primarily in the area of civil litigation.

Mrs Lauren Roberts, Postgraduate Research Administrative Assistant
Lauren Currie joined the Vice Principal's Office in November 2008 and provides administrative support for the Postgraduate Research Office. The PGR office supports PGR studentship funding administration and facilitates the development of policy and practice to enhance postgraduate researchers' experience at the University. Lauren also provides administrative support for four Glasgow research networks (Glasgow Centre for International Development, Glasgow Human Rights Network, Glasgow Refugee, Asylum and Migration Network and Glasgow Sustainable Development Network). She has a BSc in Psychology from the University of Glasgow and an MSc in Science from the Open University.

Dr Debra Stuart, Research Governance Officer
Debra Stuart is responsible for the development and management of the University’s research governance systems. She acts to ensure that these fit seamlessly within the procedures developed through Glasgow Biomedicine and fulfil the University’s obligations under the Research Governance Framework for Health and Community Care (2006), The Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations 2004, the Human Tissue Act, and all other relevant legislation. Debra obtained her PhD in Molecular Carcinogenesis at the University of Glasgow in 1995. She then spent a number of years as a research scientist within the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research and the Medical Oncology Dept at the University of Glasgow. Recently she completed an MA in Biotechnological Law and Medical Ethics at Sheffield University. Prior to joining the University Debra worked as a senior regulatory consultant within the regulatory affairs Dept of a large Contract Research Organisation.

Dr Jane Townson, Executive Assistant to Vice Principal
Jane Townson provides policy advice to Professor Steve Beaumont in his role as Vice-Principal for Research & Enterprise. This encompasses responsibility for the development of appropriate policies and procedures to ensure that all research carried out within the University meets the highest standards of research practice.
Jane also contributes to the University's aim of ensuring a high-quality, well-supported postgraduate research student population through the development, implementation, and monitoring of the University's Postgraduate Research Strategy and leading the Postgraduate Research Office. Jane is a member of the R&E Management Team and the University Research Planning and Strategy Committee. Jane obtained her Ph.D. in Biochemical Parasitology at the University of Glasgow in 1999. She then spent 4 years as a research scientist within the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research studying the role of chemokines in diseases such as HIV. Jane then moved to the NHS to work as a research & development manager before joining the Vice-Principal Research & Enterprise Office in 2006.
