Staff Only: LKAS PhD Scholarship projects - 2013/14 call for proposals NOW OPEN

Since its inception, the Lord Kelvin Adam Smith (LKAS) PhD Scholarship Scheme has created 58 new research collaborations between staff with different research expertise crossing traditional discipline boundaries and creating new partnerships between Schools/Research Institutes and / or Colleges.  Details on previously supported projects can be found here.

Funding is available to support up to 10 new scholarship projects starting in academic year 2013/14.  Each Scholarship will support a postgraduate research candidate at Research Council stipend rates for 4 years.  Proposals will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Collaboration
  • Innovation
  • Sustainability
  • Impact

Deadline for proposals: 30 November 2012

Completed proposal forms should be sent electronically in Word format only to the Graduate School of the lead supervisor.  Applications sent to any other address and in any other format run the risk of not be considered.

College Graduate Schools review applications, rank top 5 project proposals and complete assessment forms for all proposals received.

Deadline for Graduate School rankings
Graduate Schools forward top 5 project proposals and their assessment form to RSIO (pgr@glasgow.ac.uk) along with summary of all applications received (for monitoring purposes). 
Graduate Schools inform unranked Lead supervisors that proposal will not be considered further.

Feb 2013 Selection Committee meets, chaired by VP R&E.  Includes senior representation from all Colleges.
Feb 2013  RSIO notifies College ranked applicants of outcome.
March 2013 2013/14 LKAS PhD Scholarship projects advertised: recruitment of students begins.
July 2013 Graduate Schools to confirm finance details for new and continuing LKAS Scholars with Finance Office.
31 March 2014  Deadline for 2013/14 LKAS PhD Scholars to be in post.
