AMS Instrumentation Technician

Grade 6: £26,264 - £29,541 per annum

 

An additional instrumentation technician is sought to maintain the spectrometers and support scientists at the world-class SUERC Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Laboratory for environmental sample analysis in East Kilbride; the Laboratory’s 5 MV tandem for a variety of long-lived radionuclide measurement and 250 kV deck for radiocarbon analysis utilise Cs-fuelled sputter ion sources.

You should have a minimum of HND or equivalent qualifications and relevant instrumentation experience. Familiarity with some of ion beam systems, electrical high-voltage operation (including
live-electronics fault finding), analogue and digital electronic signal processing, gas handling, high-vacuum, precision mechanics and Linux & Mac computer operating systems is desirable.

There may be a requirement to travel within the UK and overseas with this position.

This position has funding for up to 3 years in the first instance and extra remuneration will be considered for the exceptionally qualified.

Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer / Reader in Stable Isotope Geoscience

Salary:  Grade 7 £31,948 - £35,938; Grade 8; £39,107 -£45,336; Grade 9 £46,846 - £52,706 per annum

 

The Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre, University of Glasgow, seeks to make an appointment to develop, build and sustain research of international standard in Earth Science applications of stable isotope geoscience which will strengthen and enhance the work and international reputation of the Research Centre. This post is linked to a major £1M plus investment in the stable isotope laboratory under which SUERC intends to purchase a high resolution isotope ratio mass spectrometer e.g. the ThermoFisher 253 Ultra.

With the ability lead to the existing team of Researchers and Technicians at the Centre you will further develop the research activity in stable isotope geoscience whilst also contributing to teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.  In particular, we seek an isotope geochemist who will build a research programme around the new mass spectrometer and our several existing conventional IRMS instruments.

For appointment at Senior Lecturer / Reader level you will demonstrate a track record of highly-cited publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals alongside an international reputation in stable isotope geoscience and researchleadership skills appropriate to the level of appointment.
