Case Studies
Useability of Security: A Case Study
Description: A study of the useability of PGP 5.0 for Macintosh undertaken at the Computer Science Department, School
of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University. The evaluation methods used were cognitive
walkthrough and a user test whereby test participants were given a task to perform using PGP.
The study concluded that PGP 5.0 wasn't 'sufficiently useable to provide effective security for
most users.'
