War Studies
Programme structure
In these times, an understanding of war is of vital importance. The taught Masters (MLitt) in War Studies at Glasgow University has been designed to broaden and deepen students' knowledge of warfare. It allows you to study a wide range of subjects with some of the world's leading experts.
- In the first term, you will get acquainted with crucial theoretical discussions about warfare, from medieval to modern times, through a team-taught core course.
- In the second term, you will choose three optional courses. These will allow you to examine specific subjects in more detail.
- Finally, all students will write a dissertation of 15,000 words with the support of a supervisor. This will ask you to carry out primary source-based research in an area of interest, engage with historiographical debate and develop your writing skills. The dissertation can be used as a stepping-stone to further doctoral research.
