Translation Studies: Translation & Professional Practice
Option Courses
You are required to take an additional 20-credit option each semester. Option courses vary year to year, but normally you can choose from the following:
Additional Advanced Language and Translation Study 1 & 2
Students with equal expertise and qualifications or comparable experience in two language areas may take a second advanced language study course over the two semesters at the same level as outlined above.
Undergraduate and Postgraduate Options
Students with research interests can take courses from the School’s MLitt programme in European Studies. Alternatively, students can sign up to a relevant Honours level option course from within the School.
If students would like to specialise in an area that is offered outside the School, they can also choose a relevant Postgraduate or Undergraduate option from within the Colleges of Arts or Law, Business and Social Sciences.
SMLC Postgraduate language courses
A Beginner's, Non-Beginner's Elementary, Intermediate or Advanced language course can be taken over one or two semesters (see full list of languages on offer here SMLC Postgraduate Language Courses). From the Language Centre, you may also choose to learn Chinese Language 1 (Mandarin) in semester 1 and/or Chinese Language 2 in semester 2.
Other Languages offered in the University
Alternatively, you may choose from one of the classical or medieval languages such as Latin or Old Icelandic, or from an Eastern European language such as Latvian or Estonian or you could study Celtic or Mandarin.
Assessment
For postgraduate and undergraduate options taken within SMLC or elsewhere, assessment is as per individual course regulations.
