Topic courses
Students on the Postgraduate Certificate in Spatial Planning are required to select 20 credits of optional courses from those listed below:
- Designing Places provides students with an appreciation of the importance and process of design in creating high quality places and enhancing the public realm and to evaluate the effectiveness of alternative design approaches in achieving this.
- Development Process is designed to enable students to understand the process of real estate development and its relationship to broader social, economic and political forces. This optional course is worth 10 credits.
- Professional Practice, Ethics & Management (10 credits) seeks to cultivate a reflective and legal aware approach to questions of ethics and values in real estate and planning professional practice.
- Urban Design Policy & Practice (10 credits) provides an in-depth appreciation and knowledge of contemporary debates in urban design policy, in design control/regulation, and the role and salience of design within contemporary development control/management.
Students who wish to use this qualification as an entrance route on to an MSc degree within the Real Estate, Planning and Regeneration programme are advised to select optional courses that are available on the MSc they wish to join. Guidance on this will be provided by the REPR Programme Director.
